Alfonso XIII

Alfonso XIII (1886–1941), king of Spain from birth until 1931. Because of the unrest during his reign, Alfonso supported Primo de Rivera's establishment of a military dictatorship in 1923. The dictator fell from power in 1930, however, and the outcome of the elections in 1931 was so pro-republican that Alfonso, although not abdicating the throne, left Spain, and a republic was established.
