Alfalfa



Alfalfa, or lucerne (Medicago sativa), legume widely grown for pasture, hay, and silage. The high protein content of this perennial makes it an excellent food for livestock, and the nitrogen-fixing bacteria on its roots are important in enriching depleted soil.
