Albany Congress

Albany Congress, meeting (1754) of 25 representatives from 7 British colonies at Albany, N.Y., aimed at conciliating the Iroquois and improving the common defense of the colonies against the French. The congress adopted a plan, chiefly designed by Benjamin Franklin, providing for greater colonial unity, one of the first significant attempts at colonial cooperation. The colonial governments later rejected the plan.
