Zebra

Zebra, 3 species of striped horses (genus Equus) of Africa. The zebra's black-and-white striped coat makes the animal inconspicuous at long range. The 3 species—plains zebra, mountain zebra, and Grévy's zebra—differ in stripe pattern, habitat, and behavior. Plains and mountain zebras live in permanent, nonterritorial stallion groups, but mountain zebras are adapted to life in more arid regions. Grévy's zebras, with very narrow stripes, are territorial animals.
