George Wythe



Wythe, George (1726–1806), judge, friend of Thomas Jefferson and first U.S. law professor at the College of William and Mary (1779–90). A member of the Second Continental Congress (1775–77) and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, he was judge of the Virginia high court of chancery (1788–1806).
