Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski



Wyszynski, Stefan Cardinal (1901–81), Polish Catholic cardinal, archbishop of Warsaw, and primate of Poland. Arrested for his attacks on the Communist government's persecution of the church in 1953, he was released after Wladyslaw Gomulka's rise to power (1956). His funeral was a national event attended by Pope John Paul II.
