John Witherspoon



Witherspoon, John (1723–94), Scottish-born American educator and clergyman who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He was a member of the Continental Congress. Prior to the American Revolution, he came to America to serve as president of what is now Princeton University. He resumed his post after the end of the war.
