Windsurfing, water sport in which an individual rides a sailboard, a surfboard with a central mast to which a sail is attached. The sail is turned by the rider to steer. The sailsurfer uses a board up to 7 ft (2.1 m) long, riding waves as in surfing. The sailboarder uses a longer board (up to 12 ft/3.7 m) and depends on wind as in sailing.
