Will-o'-the-wisp



Will-o'-the-wisp, or jack-o-lantern, blue light caused by the natural combustion of gas from decaying matter. It is sometimes visible at night over marshes and graveyards. Also called ignis fatuus (“foolish fire”), it was once believed to be an evil spirit that enticed travellers with its elusive glow.
