Shirley Williams



Williams, Shirley (1930– ), English political leader. She served as education minister in the Labour government (1976–79), then broke with the party because of its leftward drift; she helped form the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1981. In that year she became the first SDP member elected to Parliament.
