Kate Douglas Wiggin



Wiggin, Kate Douglas (1856–1923), U.S. author and educator. She pioneered kindergarten classes by organizing the first one on the West Coast in San Francisco (1878). Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1903), a book about a young girl's experiences after her father's death, was her most popular novel. She also wrote other children's fiction: The Birds' Christmas Carol (1887) and Mother Carey's Chickens (1911).
