Wichita Falls



Wichita Falls (pop. 122,378), city in Texas, located on the Wichita River. With the discovery of oil (1910) near this north-central city, Wichita Falls began to boom. It was founded just 28 years previously. Today it is an oil industry center, the home of North Texas Oil and Gas Association. Manufacturers of electronic components, parts for jet airplanes, jeans, plastic products, and glass also are located here. Sheppard Air Force Base is situated in Wichita Falls.
