Whooping cough



Whooping cough, or pertussis, contagious bacterial disease of children causing upper respiratory symptoms, with a characteristic whoop or inspiratory noise due to inflammation of the larynx. Whooping cough is a serious disease that can lead to pneumonia, brain damage, convulsions, and collapse of the lungs. Vaccination is widely practiced to prevent it.
