Whitefish



Whitefish, important freshwater food fish found in the northern regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. Whitefish are related to the salmon and trout but have small scales and small, toothless mouths. Among the most valuable species are the lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis), the lake herring, or cisco (C. artedii), and the mountain whitefish (Prosopium williamsoni).
