Water lily



Water lily, aquatic plant of the genus Nymphaea (unrelated to true lilies). They grow in calm, shallow fresh water, with stems rooted in the mud and floating leaves. Many hybrids are used as ornamentals in water gardens. The most well known of the species is the blue or white Egyptian lotus, Egypt's national emblem.
