Joseph Warren



Warren, Joseph (1741–75), U.S. politician and physician. A patriot, he became a leader in the Revolutionary War when his sympathies for the effort were aroused by the passage of the Stamp Act. Warren became a Whig in Massachusetts and spoke and wrote in protest of unfair parliamentary actions. He was selected president of the Provincial Assembly (1775) and was major general of the Massachusetts troops. Warren was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
