Henry Villard



Villard, Henry (1835–1900), German-born U.S. journalist and financier. Correspondent for the New York Herald and New York Tribune in the Civil War, he later (1881) acquired the New York Evening Post and The Nation. Entering the railroad business in 1873, he created the Oregon Railway and Navigation Co. (1879), and became president of Northern Pacific (1881–84, 1888–93). In 1890 he formed the Edison General Electric Co.
