Video camera



Video camera, device that converts images into electronic signals for television viewing. The first video cameras, developed in the 1930s, were usedfor live telecasts. Color video cameras were developed in the 1950s. By the 1970s portable video cameras were being manufactured for use in the home. In the mid-1980s the videotape recorder was small enough to be combined with a video camera in a single unit.
