Andreas Vesalius



Vesalius, Andreas (1514–64), Flemish biologist regarded as a father of modern anatomy. After considerable experience of dissection, he became one of the leading figures in the revolt against Galen. In his most important work, On the Structure of the Human Body (1543), he described several organs for the first time.
