Upanishads

Upanishads, group of philosophical treaties that make up the final part of the Veda, a collection of Hindu scriptures. They are thought to have been written from 900 to 600 B.C. Most of the existing 112 Upanishads are in dialogue form, and their speculative nature has inspired the formulation of several concepts central to the Hindu religion. One puts forth that the soul of an individual is one with the soul of the universe, or God.
