United States Naval Academy



United States Naval Academy, federally funded and operated college for training men and women to be officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Founded in 1845, it is located at Annapolis, Md. Candidates must be nominated by elected or appointed officials, such as senators and representatives, and must be between the ages of 17 and 21 years. The four-year program includes academic studies leading to a bachelor of science degree, as well as required participation in varsity or intramural sports and training in professional skills such as navigation and sailing.
