United States Military Academy



United States Military Academy, oldest government-sponsored educational facility (founded in 1802), located in West Point, N.Y. The academy trains young men and women to become officers in the U.S. Army. An applicant must be nominated by an elected or appointed U.S. official, and must pass certain academic, medical, and physical requirements. The academy offers a 4-year undergraduate education with strong emphasis on military training.
