Ultima Thule

Ultima Thule, ancient Greek and Roman name for lands of the far north. Scholars believe that the Greek term referred to Norway, Iceland, and possibly the Shetland Islands. The Greek sailor Pytheas mentions the icy waters and long nights and days of a region he reached sometime during the 4th century B.C., but the location is not specified.
