Treason

Treason, behavior by a subject or citizen that could harm the sovereign or state. In many countries treason has been loosely defined and used as a political weapon. The U.S. Constitution, however, states that treason consists only in levying war against the United States or in adhering to it enemies, “giving them Aid and Comfort”; evidence of two witnesses or confession in open court is necessary to secure a conviction.
