Travertine

Travertine, type of limestone that forms in dense layers. It is easily cut and often used in construction for decorative purposes. It is found in places where limestone is in contact with evaporated water containing calcium carbonate, and around hot springs and streams. Stalactites and stalagmites are chiefly comprised of travertine, which is mostly white or cream colored.
