Thugs

Thugs, members of an Indian religious sect (13th–19th centuries) who murdered and robbed to honor the goddess Kali. All victims, usually wealthy travelers, were systematically strangled because the spilling of blood was forbidden. In 1831, British and Indian regimes collaborated to eliminate thug activities.
