Thucydides

Thucydides (460?–400 B.C.), historian of ancient Greece. His work History of the Peloponnesian War (441–404 B.C.) eloquently communicates an unbiased and accurate account of events in the first 30 years of that war. Both sides in the conflict are quoted, analyzed, and described in detail. Thucydides was an Athenian naval general who, upon failure to defeat the Spartan troops at Amphipolis in the Peloponnesian War, was exiled (424–404 B.C.).
