Termite

Termite, or white ant, primitive insect (order Isoptera) closely related to the cockroach, found in all warm regions. Termites have a complicated social system and live in well-regulated communities, with different castes taking distinct roles. They build large nests of soil mixed with saliva, in which the colony of king, queen, workers, soldiers, and juveniles live. Soldiers and workers are sterile individuals, their development arrested at an early stage. Termites feed on wood and vegetation, digesting the food with the aid of symbiotic protozoa or bacteria in the gut.
