Elizabeth Taylor



Taylor, Elizabeth (1932– ), English-born U.S. film actress. Beginning her career as a child actress (Lassie Come Home, 1943; National Velvet, 1944), she went on to become a major Hollywood star in such films as Little Women (1949), and A Place in the Sun (1951). She received Academy Awards for her roles in Butterfield 8 (1960) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966); in the latter she co-starred with her then-husband, British actor Richard Burton. In 1992 she received a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her dedication to the struggle against AIDS.
