Stroke

Stroke, or cerebrovascular accident (CVA), sudden loss of some aspect of brain function due to lack of blood supply to a given area. Stroke may result from embolism, arteriosclerosis and thrombosis, or hemorrhage (in which case it is termed apoplexy). Areas with permanent loss of blood supply do not recover, but other areas may take over their function.
