Veit Stoss



Stoss, Veit (1440?–1533), influential German sculptor and wood carver who created dramatic, detailed religious statues in the late Gothic style. His most ambitious work, a carved and painted altar depicting the life of Mary, is located in the Church of St. Mary's in Krakow, Poland; it measures over 42 ft (13 m) high and 36 ft (11 m) wide.
