Storytelling

Storytelling, folk art practiced throughout the ages whose forms include the reciting of folk tales, myths, legends, epics, and fables. Some stories are handed down through the generations; others are created by an author. Storytelling has been used to transmit information about culture and history, explain the nature of existence, expand the imagination, entertain, and reinforce moral values. The earliest forms of storytelling combined narrative, music, and dance. Since the 1970s there has been a resurgence of interest in the art of storytelling.
