Springhare



Springhare, or springhaas (Pedetes capensis), small, nocturnal, herbivorous rodent of eastern and southern Africa, resembling a rabbit with a long tail but belonging to the family Pedetidae. Springhares grow to a body length of 17 in (43 cm) and a weight of 9 lb (4 kg). Their large hind legs enable them to jump up to 10 ft (3 m). They live singly or in small families in burrows and feed on roots and bulbs.
