Springfield



Springfield (pop. 70,487), city in west-central Ohio, on the Mad River about 45 mi (72.5 km) west of Columbus. The city serves as a marketing and processing center for the surrounding agricultural region and also produces a wide variety of machinery and other manufactured products. First settled in 1799, Springfield is the home of Wittenberg University (chartered 1845) and the seat of Clark County.
