Spinal cord and spinal nerves

Spinal cord and spinal nerves, that part of the central nervous system contained within the spinal column and extending from the skull to the level of the first or second lumbar vertebra; the nerve structures and nerve pathways within the vertebral canal, extending from the skull opening to the second lumbar vertebra. These nerves carry sensory information from the body to the brain, and then return with commands from the brain to the rest of the body.
