Spider

Spider, any of an order (Araneida) of arachnids, with a body of 2 main parts, 4 pairs of legs, and 4 pairs of eyes. Unlike insects, spiders have no antennae and no larval or pupal stages. Their abdominal spinnerets produce silk thread that is used to make cocoons for their eggs and nests, to capture their prey, and as a means of travel. They are a diverse group of some 26,000 species, including jumping spiders, wolf spiders, and trapdoor spiders. They paralyze their prey with poison, which in several species (e.g., black widows) is dangerous to humans.
