Spear

Spear, weapon on which a point tops a long shank. Spears have been constructed and used by humans since primitive times. The points of spears have evolved from the earliest ones made of wood to those crafted from bones, stones, bronze, and iron. Whether used in hunting or warfare, spears may be thrown toward their targets or used by their owners to stab the intended targets. In the 17th century, the bayonet took over the popular role of the spear in combat.
