Javelin

Javelin, spear made from lightweight metal or wood with a sharp pointed tip. Javelin throwing, a track and field competition, is an Olympic sport. After a running start, the competitor throws the javelin over the shoulder, releasing it in a high arc, in an attempt to gain the greatest distance on each throw.
