John Philip Sousa



Sousa, John Philip (1854–1932), U.S. bandmaster and composer. He wrote many light operas but is best remembered for his military marches, including “The Stars and Stripes Forever” and “The Washington Post.” Sousa was leader of the U.S. Marine Band (1880–92) before forming a world-tour band of his own.
