Sorbonne

Sorbonne, college founded in Paris in 1253 (named 1257) by Robert de Sorbon (1201–74). A noted medieval theological center, it was rebuilt in the 17th century by Richelieu and, after being closed in the French Revolution, was reestablished in 1808. Its name is often used to refer to the University of Paris, into which it was incorporated in the 19th century.
