Snowshoe hare



Snowshoe hare, or varying hare, North American mammal of the rabbit family. A hare of medium size, it is recognized by its large, thickly furred hind feet, which allow it to hop effortlessly over snow. It sheds its brown coat in winter and grows a white one. It is prey for the lynx, snowy owls, and hunters.
