Kate Smith



Smith, Kate (Kathryn Elizabeth Smith; 1909–86), singer and radio and television personality. Although she appeared on the New York stage, she made her reputation on radio in the 1930s. She is associated with Irving Berlin's song “God Bless America,” to which she had exclusive radio rights. Smith entertained during World War II, selling war bonds and appearing for the troops. She appeared regularly on television from 1950 to 1956.
