Slovaks

Slovaks, Slavic people who settled in central Europe during the 5th and 6th centuries. Slovakia was dominated by Hungary from about 900 until the 1800s, when the Slovaks began a struggle for autonomy. Together with the more numerous Czechs, they formed the independent nation of Czechoslavakia in 1918.
