Singing

Singing, music created with the voice. In humans, vibrations of the vocal cords in the throat result in sounds whose mechanics are similar to those of wind instruments. The length and thickness of vocal cords as well as their tension in the throat affect the kind of sound that is made. Classifications of women's voices—from highest to lowest in pitch—are soprano, mezzo-soprano, and contralto. For men the classifications are tenor, baritone, and bass.
