Beverly Sills



Sills, Beverly (Belle Silverman; 1929– ), U.S. coloratura soprano. She made her debut at the New York City Opera in 1955, and ultimately became internationally acclaimed both as a singer and an actress in a broad variety of roles, ranging from bel canto to modern works. After retiring she was general director of the City Opera (1979–89).
