Sibyl

Sibyl, in Greek and Roman mythology, female prophet, usually divinely inspired and associated with a shrine or temple. There were sibyls throughout the ancient world, the most famous being the Cumaean sibyl, who accompanied Aeneas to Hades and sold the books of the Sibylline Prophecies to King Tarquin of Rome. Her caverns still exist in Mount Cuma in southern Italy. Medieval monks adapted the sibyls to Christianity, making them 12 in number and giving each a separate prophecy regarding Jesus.
