Jean Sibelius



Sibelius, Jean (Julius Christian Sibelius, sometimes Jan; 1865–1957), Finnish composer. His best-known work is Finlandia (1900), which expressed his country's growing nationalist feeling. He composed several tone poems, such as En Sagà (1892), that evoke the physical beauty and ancient legends of Finland. He wrote 7 symphonies and many violin and piano pieces.
