Anna Howard Shaw



Shaw, Anna Howard (1847–1919), English-born U.S. leader of women's suffrage and temperance movements. Shaw became a Methodist minister (1880) and a medical doctor (1886). An associate of Susan B. Anthony, she worked for the passage of an amendment to the United States Constitution that would secure voting rights for women. Shaw served as president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (1904–15).
