Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton

His 1914 expedition was marked by an open-boat crossing from Elephant Island to South Georgia Island and a winter traverse of that island's crest after his ship was crushed by ice. Written works include Heart of the Antarctic (1909), South: The Story of Shackleton's 1914–1917 Expedition (1919), and Adventure (1928).
