Semiramis

Semiramis, mythical Assyrian queen who supposedly founded the city of Babylon. Born of the union of a Syrian youth and a fish goddess, she was raised by doves. She married King Ninus of Assyria, and became queen when he died. During her long reign, she conquered Persia and Egypt. She was overthrown by her son and became a dove. Her story may be based on the life of Sammuramat, regent of Assyria (810–805 B.C.).
